The Wrap – The release date for TriStar’s “The Nightingale,” starring Dakota Fanning and Elle Fanning, has now been unset.

In December, TheWrap exclusively reported that Mélanie Laurent (“Galveston”) would direct the period drama from a script by Dana Stevens. Elizabeth Cantillon was to produce through her production company The Cantillon Company. The two sisters were to unite for the first time on screen to play sisters, based on Kristin Hannah’s worldwide best-seller of the same name.

The Nightingale,” which was in preproduction before worldwide film shoots halted in March, was due to be released on Christmas Day this year. Production is expected to restart once it is safe to do so.

The Nightingale” follows two sisters coming of age in France on the eve of World War II and their struggle to survive the German occupation of France. The story is inspired by the courageous women of the French Resistance who helped downed Allied airmen escape Nazi-occupied territory and hid Jewish children.

Hannah’s book became a hit after it was published in 2015. It has since been published in 45 languages and sold more than 3.5 million copies in the U.S. alone. It has become No. 1 New York Times best-seller and spent a total of 114 weeks on the New York Times Bestsellers List. It was also named the best book of the year by BuzzFeed, iTunes, Library Journal, The Wall Street Journal, Goodreads and others.

VULTURE – The Sisters Fanning are following in the footsteps of countless other actor siblings and bringing their sisterhood to the screen in the World War II drama The Nightingale. Dakota Fanning, 25, and Elle Fanning, 21, said in a joint statement on Elle’s Instagram that

“The Nightingale will be the first time we act onscreen together. We have played the same character at different ages but have never spoken to each other in front of a camera. For years, we have looked for a film to do with one another and then this gem appeared.”

The Fannings have indeed played the same character at different ages in I Am Sam and the miniseries Taken, but as noted in the statement, did not share screen time. The Nightingale is an adaptation of Kristin Hannah’s 2015 novel of the same name, which follows two sisters growing up in Nazi-occupied France. Mélanie Laurent is set to direct.

ELLE UKElle Fanning and Angelina Jolie share several A-list similarities.

For starters, they both come from a celebrity dynasty that includes fathers and sisters and other family members. They have both starred in numerous luxury fashion brand campaigns for the likes of Guerlain, Louis Vuitton, and Marc Jacobs and they both have been nominated for prestigious awards, including Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild and Academy Awards.

But now, the mother-of-six learns that she and Teen Spirit actress Fanning have another, perhaps more surprising thing in common.

In an interview with ELLE UK ahead of the release of their new film Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, Fanning revealed to Jolie that her ballet teacher used to babysit the 44-year-old when she was a child.

Speaking about her dance teacher Wendy Lawson, who the actress counts as one of her best friends and a fellow ‘wicked woman’, the 20-year-old told Jolie that Lawson used to care for the Oscar-nominated star.
